New Fire Siren

posted Dec 30, 2015, 11:00 AM by Corry Sheffler

The fire siren in Southwest Greensburg Borough was replaced in December, 2015 and will become active at 12:00 p.m. noon on Friday, January 1, 2016.  The siren is located by the old Tax Office and park by 424 Brandon Street.  The previous fire siren was damaged beyond repair by a storm in 2014.

The new siren will have the capability to be activated for major weather emergencies such as tornadoes.  The sound during a weather emergency will have the siren blow constant for one minute.  For fire department incidents, the siren will blow 3 times for 10 seconds each over a 40 second span.

Though the fire department does use newer technology tools to receive notification of incidents, these items are sometimes delayed.  The fire siren is the only form of activation that is guaranteed.
