At the recent baseball fundraiser for Nico Salvio, we are holding $115.00 for an unclaimed winning 50/50 ticket on Saturday, July 21st. The winning ticket number is 644177. If you have the winning ticket, please bring the ticket to the Southwest Greensburg Borough office at 564 Stanton Street to claim your winnings.

New Mayor and Council Member Opening

At last night’s meeting, Southwest Greensburg Borough Council appointed Carol Palcic as Mayor for the remaining term of Shaun Teacher.  Effective August 1st, Shaun resigned as Mayor due to a family relocation.  Carol’s appointment is effective on August 13th upon her resignation as a Council member.  Application letters for Carol’s remaining Council member term are being accepted at the Borough office at 564 Stanton Street.  Applicants must submit Affidavit of Residency and Statement forms with their application letter; these forms are available at the Borough office. Southwest Greensburg Borough Council will appoint the new Council member at the September 12th meeting.  We wish Carol the very best in her new position and thank her for her willingness to serve Southwest Greensburg.


Energy Supplier Soliciting

Please be aware that representatives from an energy company have been reported going door to door in Southwest Greensburg Borough. The company representatives attempt to have residents switch the energy supplier for their electric and gas accounts. Please be aware that switching energy suppliers could lead to large utility bills in the future. These representatives have no soliciting permit. If you encounter them, please contact the Southwest Greensburg Police at 724-834-8730.

Part-time Police Officers – Southwest Greensburg Borough Police Department, Westmoreland County, PA

The Southwest Greensburg Borough Police Department are now accepting applications to fill positions for part-time police officers.

 Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen and at least 21 years of age.
• Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
• Applicant must be Act 120 certified.
• Must possess a current CPR/First Aid Certification.
• Must pass a physical and psychological exam and drug screening.
• Must pass weapons qualification.
• Must be knowledgeable in modern police practices and methods used in crime investigation and the identification and preservation of physical evidence and knowledgeable in Commonwealth laws, rules, and regulations.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work a minimum of 16-24 hours per week, primarily nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Position will require employee to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper courses of action.
• Six-month probationary period.

Preferred Qualifications:
• At least 1-2 years of prior police experience at a fulltime federal, state or local police department.
• Associates degree or higher education in Criminal Justice or equivalent degree.

Full consideration will be given to applications received by August 15th.

Basket Drawing Winners - Nico's Baseball Fundraising Tournament

Today is the last day for the baseball fundraising tournament at Red Devils Park for the support of Nico Salvio as he awaits a heart transplant. Due to rain yesterday, the completion of two baseball games will begin at 5:00 pm tonight. After the completion of these games, the tournament final game will take place tonight. Winners of the basket drawings will be announced at 7:00 pm tonight.

The Greater Greensburg Sewage Authority, Westmoreland County, PA is currently seeking candidates for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. Applicants may obtain a job description and a list of the position requirements, as well as an application for employment form from the Authority’s administration office at 210 W. Otterman Street, Greensburg, PA.

Description for position of Plant Operator

The position of wastewater Treatment Plant Operator requires the applicant to be able to perform the full range of duties and functions required to ensure the wastewater treatment facility operates effectively and efficiently within the prescribed requirements of the facilities National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit while maintaining safe and effective working conditions within the facility. These duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Duties and Responsibilities for the position of Plant Operator

* Perform treatment plant rounds to inspect, monitor and record plant operational conditions by reading and interpreting information obtained through visual observation of process instrumentation, the SCADA system data, and through standard process control testing and evaluation of the activated sludge process.

* Evaluate the activated sludge treatment process through standard process control testing and make necessary process control decisions and adjustments to assure proper treatment to permit limitations.

* Operate, adjust, inspect and maintain all pumps, blowers, screens, valves, motors, gates, and other process equipment.

* Receive, unload and properly stow deliveries of chemicals used in the treatment process.

* Prepare, compile and maintain plant and operations logs and reports.

* Conduct necessary process control tests and perform mathematical process control calculations related to the process control tests.

* Collect wastewater samples, complete the required documentation for sampling chain of custody forms and perform a variety of routine laboratory tests for both process control and regulatory compliance.

* Perform general facility maintenance such as cleaning, housekeeping, proper storage of materials and parts inventories, as well as minor equipment repairs.

* Must be on-call and able to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency calls on regularly scheduled off times in a timely manner as required.

* Must be able to operate a variety of hand tools, and equipment utilized in an industrial plant environment.

* Assist with snow removal at the facility and remote locations as required during winter months including the operation of snow blowers and snow plows.

* Accept a responsible role in implementing the safety culture of the facility by adhering to all safe work practices, utilizing all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and wearing the appropriate PPE in all work situations.

* Must be able to demonstrate the proper use of PPE and general safety equipment including gas monitors, confined space entry equipment, arc flash protection equipment, and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) where applicable.

* Must be able to utilize personal computers and a variety of software applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

* Must ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.

Requirements for the position of Plant Operator

* A High School Diploma or GED is required. Technical Training, Associates Degree a Plus. Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical skills and mathematical skills are required.

* Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Drivers License.

* Pennsylvania Certified Wastewater Treatment Operators License class (SB1) is required or the ability to obtain certification at the SB1 certificate level within 36 months of employment.

* Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical.

* Must be able to pass a drug screening.

* Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

* Must be a US Citizen, or legally documented to work within the United States.

* The Plant Operator position is covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement between the Township and the Teamsters Union. The position requires Union membership.

* The position of Plant Operator is a physical position and requires the applicant to be able to lift heavy weights periodically, to stand for prolonged periods, to reach, stoop, bend, climb and descend ladders, etc.

* Applicant must complete and submit an employment application, along with a resume, and a minimum of three personal references.

Scam IRS Phone Calls

Please be aware of a current scam where a voicemail message from a caller claiming to be from the IRS says you owe back taxes. The message says that if they aren't called back as soon as possible to address this issue, the police will come and take you into custody. Do not call them back. At least several people in Southwest Greensburg Borough have received these calls.

Concession Stand Help

Southwest Greensburg Recreation is having a baseball tournament fundraiser at Red Devils Park in Southwest Greensburg Borough for nine-year old Nico Salvio. Nico is awaiting a heart transplant. We could really use some help in our concession stands. If you can, please help us on the following dates and times for the tournament:

Friday, July 20 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Saturday, July 21 11:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sunday, July 22 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
Monday, July 23 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Auction of Gift Baskets to Support Nico Salvio

Please see the attached document on the opportunity to purchase auction tickets for numerous gift baskets during a baseball tournament fundraiser for Nico Salvio. Borough Office/Tax Office Closed
